Oil City News – After being appointed to the position last year, Natrona County Clerk of District Jill Kiester announced Friday that she intends to run for the November 2022 election to the office, according to a release.
The Clerk of District Court is responsible for maintaining the records of the Seventh Judicial District Court, including civil, probate, criminal, adoption, juvenile and involuntary commitment cases. The position is also responsible for caring for the jurors during District Court jury trials.
The volume of documents is among the highest of the state’s district courts, Kiester said:
“In 2021, we filed 2,574 new cases, conducted 24 jury trials, and docketed thousands of legal pleadings, along with processing many payments including child support payments and criminal restitution.”
Kiester said she was “very excited for the implementation of the latest court management system” this spring. “The new system is the first step in implementing e-filing (electronic filing of court documents), which is scheduled to be in place one year after the system is up and running.”
“It is my privilege and my honor to get to do this job every day,” Kiester said. “I am happy to continue to make this office as efficient as possible and to serve the people of Natrona County as the Clerk of District Court.”
Kiester began her career in 1988, in the Clerk of District Court’s Office working in the child support section of the office.
The Natrona County Commission appointed Kiester to the position after the previous clerk, Ann Volin, died in February 2021.
Kiester said she had admired Volin as a peer, supervisor, and friend, noting her “energetic, positive outlook.” Kiester said she also shared Volin’s sense of “huge responsibility” in maintaining the court’s permanent record.
